Application Process

*Application Deadline is April 14, 2017

 The final application deadline for the 2017 Academy is April 14, 2017.  A completed application should include:

  • An official high school transcript
  • Completed Application Form
  • Required Essay: A 300-word summary of your research interests and interest in attending the Summer Research Academy
  • Resume: A one-page research and academic resume detailing academic awards, unique opportunities and leadership activities
  • Letter of Recommendation from a high school teacher, coach, counselor, or school administrator.

Admission Requirements............................................................................................................

Applicants to the Academy must meet the following requirements during the 2016-17 academic year:

  1. Have earned a composite ACT score of 28+
  2. Have completed at least 3 high school mathematics courses (Algebra l and higher)
  3. Completed at least 1 high school chemistry, physics, or biology class (with lab experience) before June 1, 2017

Program Requirements.....………………………………………………………………………………………………

  •  Attendance at all SRA program functions and scheduled events (trips, meetings, campus visits, etc)
  •  Attendance at all weekly check-in meetings with SRA program coordinator.
  •  Minimum of 6 hours devoted daily (Mon-Fri) towards research project. Hours can be supplemented during the weekend or during evening hours when permitted by cooperating faculty.
  •  Essay detailing your experience while at the SRA summer program which will be due during the final week of the program.
  •  Poster presentation on respective research project which will be given on the final day of the program at the Summer Showcase event.

Should I apply if I'm still unsure about whether or not I'll attend the Academy?

Yes! Any student who has an interest in attending the Academy should submit an application. Acceptance to the program does not obligate you to attend as many students will consider several summer opportunities. With your acceptance letter and research assignment, information will be included about securing your spot in the 2017 Academy. [more information]
