The Academy will be housed in Missouri S&T's Thomas Jefferson Hall. Commonly referred to as TJ Hall, the facility is a newly renovated two-tower residential life housing complex. The North Tower is seven stories tall and can house around 40 people in each one of its two wings. The South Tower is eleven stories tall and houses around 34 people on a floor. The historic downtown district and many local restaurants are a short walk away.
Summer Researchers will be paired up and roomed in the double suites. Residential Life staff will make room assignments, however if you are attending the camp with a friend, you may request to be roomed together (every attempt will be made to honor those requests that have been submitted prior to the move-in date). The Thomas Jefferson food court will be available for three meals per weekday and a long brunch and dinner on weekends. During the summer, the food court rotates available stations to offer a variety of fare throughout the week. A made-to-order pasta, burger bar, pizza, sub sandwich window, salad bar, comfort foods and al a carte fare are available daily. Each student will have access to a meal card with adequat meals to last for the six-week stay, in addition to a declining balance account that works similar to a debit card. By using their student ID, everyone can use this feature to purchase meals, satisfy early morning coffee or enjoy an afternoon snack.
Throughout the duration of the Academy, Rolla will have many activities to offer. Students can plan to attend community events such as the 4th of July carnival and downtown music festival. Many local parks are within walking distance of campus and the Student Recreation Center is always available.
Be sure to pack a soccer ball or baseball mitt to take advantage of free afternoons. The campus's indoor pool and fitness center will also be available during the day. The Student Union Board also plans several summer activities such as outdoor movies and everyone is more than welcome to attend.
